GI & Muscle Helper™ is one of our top supplements for supporting the health of the GI tract. It contains glutamine, the primary amino acid that naturally occurs in the structure of the GI tract. It is also used by GI tract cells to produce energy. In fact, more GI tract energy is derived from the metabolism of glutamine than from glucose. As a nutrient glutamine is immediately available for digestive tract nutrition.*
L-Glutamine
Glutamine is the single most important nutrient needed by the GI tract for energy and repair. Glutamine is also a major component of muscle. When the GI tract is in distress, large amounts of glutamine are taken from the blood to fuel GI tract needs. This in turn may promote muscle breakdown or muscle wasting.*
Glutamine is the most important amino acid that forms the actual structure of the GI lining. It helps to improve the "leaky gut" issue, where toxins can seep out of the digestive tract into the body.*
N-Acetyl-D-Glucosamine (NAG)
GI & Muscle Helper also contains N-Acetyl Glucosamine (NAG), a key nutrient that helps form mucin within the digestive tract. Mucin is a mucoprotein that acts as a lubricant, forming a natural barrier that helps protect the digestive lining. Adequate mucin supports healthy intestinal permeability, assisting digestion and absorption of food and nutrients. NAGs have been shown to interact with many cell receptors on organisms or food components existing within the GI tract, helping to support healthy digestive processes.*
NAG also helps to improve muscosal lining hydration throughout the body, including the eyes. As explained on the hyaluronic acid section, glutamine and NAGs are used to help make hyaluronic acid, an important nutrient for all body structures.*
FOS
FOS (Fructooligigosacharrides) is a special carbohydrate that enhances the growth of the highly beneficial bifidobacteria in the lower colon. FOS is resistant to any digestive enzyme, harmful bacteria, or candida albicans. Only bifidobacteria can break it down and then use it to fuel its own growth. The bifidobacteria uses FOS like a fiber. It helps to increase production of short chain fatty acids (butyric acid) that are used by the lower colon for energy and structure.*
Glutamine for Muscle Repair
Glutamine is also a major component of muscle and is needed for muscle health.* GI & Muscle Helper™ may also be taken with Daily Protein™, if desired, to boost muscle recovery from exercise. As the kidneys metabolize glutamine, bicarbonate is produced, assisting in maintaining proper blood pH.*
